Welcome to another video in the Write Like series! Since yesterday saw the arrival of the first trailer for “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom”, I thought we would celebrate by releasing a video lesson from the first “Jurassic World” movie.
In this lesson, I talk about a tactic the writers use to make us scared in a pivotal moment in the movie. They carefully and purposely lull us into a sense of “safety” using some clever tricks, and then pull the rug from under us. It’s a great example of clear setup and payoff that can help writers out there working on any kind of scene that needs to build tension.
If you like this video and want to see more lessons from Jurassic World, we have an entire course dedicated just to this movie! Click here to learn over a dozen lessons from the movie, along with writing activities to help strengthen your skills.
See you next week!
