Hey everyone!

I’m excited to share with you a new project I’ve been working on. It’s a pilot for a show called SHENJI458 – created, written and directed by Yasir Masood and Quoc Huynh. I met Yasir at last year’s Austin Film Festival and we really hit it off; when he told me about his new show, I knew I had to check it out. It’s a series centered on competitive gaming and e-sports (League of Legends in particular), something I haven’t really seen much of in a TV show before, which is what drew me to the project. He mentioned they needed a composer so I stepped in and thankfully, it turned out to be a great fit!

When I first watched the pilot, what struck me was the range of emotions in these scenes. As a composer, this is exciting because it meant I had the chance to dip into different moods and textures. Playing musical riffs on the same tone over and over isn’t exciting for the audience OR the creator. And like many other kids around here, I grew up playing video games with a religious fervor. A world centered inside that realm felt very natural to me and I could easily connect to what was happening on screen.

I also really loved how diverse the cast and crew is of this project and am really happy I got to be a part of it. We need a better variety of voices in the entertainment industry because these voices always bring different perspectives that not only speak for others from similar backgrounds, but show how truly varied the real world is. Simply put – we need more projects like SHENJI458.

Check it out above or click here to watch it on Youtube. Please support this project, share it with your fellow friends and gamers and hopefully we can put out more episodes!
